A successful enrollment process at HCC-Central begins at The Welcome Center. In this office you will be screened and offered a chance to submit application on the Web. If this has been done, then you will get a general overview of the enrollment process. If your objective entails registering for classes, you will be referred to the Counseling Department. All students are required to take one of the approved tests prior to enrolling. Only those who are TASP or THEA exempt based on SAT or ACT will not be required to take further tests. Depending on what type of TASP or THEA exemption, a Counselor/ Student Services Associate will determine whether or not a student will have to do any further testing. All new students and those who have accumulated less than 15 credit hours of college are mandated to complete a Pre-registration Information Seminar on-line. After assessment has been completed, your next step is to see a counselor or student service associates who will discuss and explain the scores and complete a TASP Milestone for each new student. Counselors and Student Service Associates approve courses for students. Counselors and Student Services Associates discuss with students their responsibility for having the necessary prerequisites, or experience prior to enrolling in certain college level courses. Returning students are seen by Counselors and Student Services Associate who will assist students with course selection. All students who do not pass one or more sections of ASSET/Compass/ TASP or THEA will be required to take a Student Success Seminar course. Only students with 6 or more college credit hours will be waived from this requirement
