Why should I choose Fashion Merchandising as a career?Selecting a career in Fashion Merchandising can be the right choice for you if you desire a career in fashion retailing, promotion, or wholesale operations Why is Houston Community College “t he fashion merchandising school of choice?” As an HCC Central fashion design student you will study in “state of the art” studio classrooms with experienced fashion professionals for your instructors. You will have the opportunity to explore the fashion capitals of the world during fashion study trips to Paris, Milan, Madrid, London, New York, Hong Kong and Dallas. Our students consistently win in competitions against students from the most prestigious fashion design schools in the world and go on to become successful professionals. This fashion design program was named one of the top associate degree programs in the United States by the National Council of Instructional Administrators and was awarded exemplary program status by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. What kind of degree can I earn? An Associate in Applied Science Degree is available through the Fashion Merchandising program. The Fashion Merchandising courses will also transfer to a senior institution as credit towards a bachelor's degree. The Fashion Merchandising program offers certificates for Fashion Sales Associate, Fashion Image Consultant, and Visual Merchandising. How long will it take me to complete this program? The Fashion Merchandising degree is a five-semester program. If you do not need developmental course work and you register for 15 credit hours during the fall and spring semester, along with nine credit hours for the summer semester; you can complete the degree in two years. The Fashion Merchandising Certificate programs (Fashion Sales Associate, Fashion Image Consultant, and Visual Merchandising) take on to three semesters to complete. Are there any requirements I must satisfy before I start taking courses? You must either have a high school diploma or have passed an equivalency examination. What will I be able to do when I complete this program? The Fashion Merchandising Program provides the training required for entry-level fashion merchandising positions in retail, promotional, or wholesale fashion businesses. With a Fashion Sales Associate Certificate you are prepared to work in retail or wholesale fashion sales. The Visual Merchandising Certificate program develops your technical skills for window and interior display and for the understanding of aesthetic principles and applications, preparing you for an entry-level position as a visual merchandiser in a retail store. The Fashion Images Certificate Program develops your awareness of personal style while preparing you to advise clients on color, line, design, silhouette, and total wardrobe planning. What kind of salary can I expect? Typically, buyers may expect starting salaries in the range of $28,500 to $42,000. Fashion Sale Associates and Visual Merchandisers may expect starting salaries in the range of $21,000 to $32,000. How do I apply? HCC Central is an open door college.
