Drama presents
West
Side Story
A Concert Version
Directed by Kathleen Knight
Friday and Saturday, June 27th and 28th at 7:30
West Side
Story is a tale, fueled by passion, rage and longing, set in a New York
ghetto where rising tension between rival gangs, the Jets and the Sharks,
threatens to burst into violence. When Tony and Maria, young lovers
from opposite sides try to break the cycle of hatred, they unwittingly
lead the gangs into open warfare. In this concert version, angry edgy
music of the streets is balanced by moments of rambunctious comedy and
some of the most tender and lyrical love songs in musical theater. The
creative genius of three great figures of 20th century theatre: composer
Leonard Bernstein, choreographer Jerome Robbins, and a young lyricist,
Stephen Sondheim, gave us a groundbreaking musical that 50 years after
its opening is still vital, powerful and deeply moving. To learn more

women agree to share the chores.
