The disciplines
we teach are resource intensive. At Central Fine Arts we are committed
to providing the tools, equipment, specialized facilities to support
your educational goals and your creative energy. We are proud to say
that the fine arts facilities at Central are among the best in the Houston
area.
Take a
tour of our three building complex and you'll see what we mean. For
example, the Fine Arts Center houses our ceramics studio, which includes
a 59 cubic foot gas car-kiln, a raku kiln, electric kilns, a large glaze
lab, electric and kick wheels, and clay mixer. Other specialized studios
include facilities for printmaking, small metals, sculpture, painting
and design. A gallery showcases the work of our students and faculty,
and hosts traveling shows of every description.
The Fine
Arts Center also houses the music department, including practice rooms,
recital halls, rehearsal space, and a well-equipped electronic piano
lab.
In Theater
One, you'll find studios for the dance and drama departments and Theatre
One One itself, a flexible "black box" performance space that
seats up to 120 people for plays, dance events, and recitals.
The
Heinen Theatre is the performance home of the music, dance,
and drama departments. Built in 1924 as Temple Beth Israel, the Heinen
is now a professionally equipped 300 seat proscenium theatre that retains
turn of the century charm in its architectural details, including a
stunning stained glass skylight. The space boasts excellent acoustics
and sightlines. Our performance spaces serve as laboratories and classrooms
for our students, but we also have a mission to serve the larger Houston
community. We host over a hundred events a year, from opera to modern
dance, from pageants to poetry readings.
For listings of public events, see our Events
page.
